The demand for Tiptoe products of impeccable quality is rooted in a family heritage spanning three generations of entrepreneurs. In 1947, Henri Bourgeaux, ...the grandfather of Matthieu Bourgeaux (the founder of Tiptoe), established a company near Chamonix in Haute-Savoie specializing in metal machining, particularly in a process known as "décolletage" (precision turning). The company was later taken over by Matthieu's father and uncle, and more recently by his brother. The family workshop remains one of Tiptoe's main partners, producing thousands of mechanical parts every year that make up the components of their various products. Tiptoe was founded in 2015, modernizing and reinterpreting a defining concept of French design: the modular table leg. Tiptoe sees itself as the heir to a distinguished lineage of French designers who have shaped the history of furniture with their free and avant-garde vision. The first modular leg concept was introduced in 1972 by François Arnal with the "serre-joint T9" table leg. In 1982, Philippe Starck reinterpreted the concept for a project with Les 3 Suisses, followed by Philippe Nigro who proposed his own take on the system with the T.U. table in the 2000s.
